Gibbons is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located on Highway 28A, north-east of Edmonton. The town was named for William R. Gibbons who settled in the area and was created from the merger of two smaller communities: Astleyville and Battenburg. Gibbons is situated on the southern banks of the Sturgeon River which is a major tributary of the North Saskatchewan River. == Demographics == In the 2011 Census, the Town of Gibbons had a population of 3,030 living in 1,075 of its 1,111 total dwellings, a 14.7% change from its 2006 population of 2,642.
